Soccer Wordle

Soccer Wordle, but the answer is a footballer

Six guesses. Green, amber, and grey feedback. A new mystery player every day. GoalWord takes the daily Wordle habit and turns it into a football deduction game.

Independence note: GoalWord is an independent football game. It is not affiliated with Wordle, The New York Times, or any word-game publisher. “Soccer Wordle” and “football Wordle” are descriptive terms people use for this style of daily guessing game.

The format

What is Soccer Wordle?

“Soccer Wordle” is the informal name for a Wordle-style game where the answer is a football player instead of a word. You make a guess, receive feedback, and use that feedback to narrow the next guess. The daily reset and the shareable emoji grid are part of the format.

GoalWord is a football-first version of that idea. The answer is a player from a curated database of men’s and women’s footballers. The feedback is not letter-based: it compares nationality, position, birth year, and shared clubs. That makes the puzzle about football knowledge rather than spelling.

Why the Wordle comparison makes sense

The appeal of Wordle is not the five-letter word. It is the daily constraint: one puzzle, six attempts, a result you can share without spoiling the answer. GoalWord keeps that rhythm and changes the subject. If you already play a daily word game, the loop will feel familiar. If you do not, the football clues give you a way in.

Wordle vs GoalWord

Both games use six attempts and a daily reset. The difference is what you are guessing and what the feedback tells you.

How to play

The daily loop in three steps

01

Guess a footballer

Type a name and pick a player from the autocomplete. You have six guesses.

02

Use the feedback

Green is a match, amber means the birth year is close, and grey means no match. Each wrong guess unlocks a clue.

03

Solve and share

A correct guess ends the round. Copy the emoji grid and challenge a friend without revealing the answer.

Why football?

Football is a natural deduction space

A five-letter word has 26 possible letters and a dictionary of valid guesses. Football has thousands of players, hundreds of clubs, and a century of history. That sounds too broad for a daily puzzle, which is why GoalWord uses a curated database and a fixed clue order.

The categories do the work. Nationality, position, birth year, and clubs are all comparable. They can be green, amber, or grey. They can eliminate large groups or confirm a single player. A shared club is the football equivalent of a correct letter in the right position: it tells you that two careers overlap.

A daily game for football fans, not word nerds

If you love Wordle but do not care about five-letter words, GoalWord gives you the same daily ritual with a subject you already know. If you love football but have never played a daily word game, the clues and comparison feedback are designed to teach you the format as you go.

Play today, practice later

The daily puzzle is one round. If you want more, practice mode gives you unlimited random players, and the archive lets you replay past challenges. The football trivia quiz is a different format if you want multiple-choice questions instead of deduction.

Soccer Wordle FAQ

Questions about the format

Is GoalWord the official Wordle?+

No. GoalWord is an independent football guessing game. It is not affiliated with Wordle, The New York Times, or any other word game. “Soccer Wordle” and “football Wordle” are informal ways people describe the format.

How is Soccer Wordle different from Wordle?+

Wordle asks you to guess a five-letter word. GoalWord asks you to guess a footballer from a curated database. Instead of letter positions, you get comparison feedback for nationality, position, birth year, and shared clubs, plus six progressive clues.

How many guesses do I get?+

Six guesses, the same as the familiar word-game format. The first clue is free, and each wrong guess unlocks one more clue. A correct guess ends the round immediately.

Is it free to play?+

Yes. GoalWord is free, works in a browser, and does not require an app or an account. Your streak and stats are saved locally in your browser.

Can I play past Soccer Wordle puzzles?+

Yes. Past daily challenges move to the archive after the UTC reset. You can replay them without affecting your daily streak. Practice mode also gives you unlimited random players.

Does the game work on a phone?+

Yes. The interface is designed mobile-first. The autocomplete, clue panel, and result card are usable on small screens, and the game does not require landscape orientation.

Why footballers instead of words?+

Football has a huge cast of players, clubs, countries, and eras. That makes it a rich deduction space. A player’s nationality, position, birth year, and clubs create natural comparison categories, which is what makes the Wordle-style feedback work.
