How the archive works
A second chance at the mystery player
The daily challenge is designed to be played once. The archive is for everyone who wants to revisit a puzzle, test a different clue order, or catch up on a challenge they missed.
One new entry per day
Each completed daily puzzle joins the archive at the next UTC reset.
Progress saved locally
Your replay guesses are stored in this browser, so you can leave and come back.
No streak pressure
Archive rounds are separate from the daily game. Your streak is safe.
Why replay a football puzzle?
Replaying a challenge is a low-pressure way to learn how the clue system works. Maybe you solved the daily in six guesses and want to see whether a different first guess would have been faster. Maybe you missed the day entirely and do not want to scroll through a group chat full of emoji grids.
The archive also makes GoalWord useful beyond the daily habit. If you discover the game on a Thursday, you can work through the earlier puzzles without waiting a week. The original clues are preserved, so each replay is the same puzzle that was live on that date.
What the archive does not do
Archive replays do not change your daily streak, win rate, or guess distribution. They are not a shortcut to the daily game, and they do not unlock future puzzles. The live challenge is always the one on the home page.
If you want a truly fresh round, practice mode gives you a random player from the full database. If you want a different kind of football test, try the 20-question trivia quiz.

Questions about replays
When does a challenge enter the archive?+
A daily challenge is added to the archive after its live day ends at 00:00 UTC. The current day’s puzzle stays on the home page until then.
Can I replay an archived challenge more than once?+
You can open an archived challenge again, but your progress is saved in the browser. If you want a clean attempt, reset the round by clearing that archive entry from your browser’s site data. Archive replays do not affect daily stats either way.
Do archive replays count toward my streak?+
No. Only the live daily challenge can change your streak, win rate, or guess distribution. Archive replays are labelled separately and are designed for practice and curiosity.
Why is the archive empty?+
The archive grows one puzzle per day. If GoalWord has just launched, there may be no completed challenges yet. Today’s puzzle is always available on the home page.
